Pep up your life the biodynamic way

SUNDAY 11 JUNE 2017

Young woman planting tree on Huxhams Cross Farm on a sunny day

Huxhams Cross Farm Open Farm 11 June, 11am – 5pm

Huxhams Cross Farm, with a view over rolling Devon hills, is a beacon of sustainability, weaving biodynamic and permaculture methods to revitalise the soil. Meander through fields of newly-planted orchard trees. Greet the farm’s 120 White Leghorn chickens (their eggs are a local foodie sensation) and Damson and Daffodil, the Shetland heifers. Huxhams Cross Farm is part of a pioneering agroforestry project at Dartington Estate and one of four farms on Dartington Estate opening their farm gates to visitors that day. Tenant farmers, the Apricot Centre, also run a farm school, a local veg box delivery, and welcome volunteers. Open Farm Sunday is farming’s national open day and opportunity to visit to meet the farmers.

Rush Farm summer fete 12 August, 11am – 5pm

All the fun of a fete at Rush Farm plus guided farm walks on a beautiful 150-acre farm with 22 acres of woodland. Set in rural Worcestershire, Rush Farm is biodynamic Demeter and organic Soil Association certified, producing healthy food while regenerating soil and wildlife. Rich in birdlife, Rush Farm has created habitats that encourage lapwings and curlews. Hang over a farm gate to watch the farm’s flock of Lleyn sheep, and its herd of traditional Hereford cattle grazing in meadows and pastures. With any luck you’ll also see Flash the sheepdog. Community-owned by Stockwood Community Benefit Society and under the guardianship of the Biodynamic Land Trust, Rush Farm is also famous for inspiring BBC’s The Archers in the 1950s.
