Huxhams Cross Farm

Huxhams Cross Farm – so far
Thanks to community investment, the fledgling farm is revitalising the soil, has planted two acres of soft fruit, 900 orchard trees and 3,500 agro-forestry trees, has a hundred chickens and two Shetland heifers. It has raised a new barn, developed access to parking, and now runs a farm school for children, and the Apricot Centre Local Food Round with fellow farmers, a weekly delivery of local vegetables, fruit, eggs and spring water.

What next?
The farm’s tenant farmers, the Apricot Centre team, aim to build a wellbeing and training centre where farm trainees, school groups, children and families can gather for farm-to-fork activities, storytelling, therapeutic wellbeing sessions, and professional training. The centre, with the necessary services, will also be a place for technical on-farm processing of juices and jams – part of the farm’s mission to develop a supply-and-sales network and become self-sufficient, creating jobs.

Background
In September 2015, the Biodynamic Land Trust secured a 999-year lease from the Dartington Hall Trust, and shortly afterwards signed a 15-year farm tenancy lease with the Apricot Centre CIC to establish an educational market garden and community-connected small farm with transformational social and environmental impacts. The Biodynamic Land Trust launched the Huxhams Cross Farm share offer in October 2015. We have made huge strides, thanks to commmunity investment (both time and financial) but still have a way to go. Please help Huxhams Cross Farm fulfil its mission.
